    There is another BIG, or rather the reverse, advantage of the V8 over the in-line 6 - and that's the sheer length, and height, of the engine! There are many instances one may not be able to package the 'six' but an 'eight' will fit. True, so will a four, but they may simply lack the required power/torque or NVH requirements. That's a big part of why the VM30 was/is popular, especially after the failure points are addressed.

    I have an 2016 built N55 inside an X5 xDrive35i that's been tuned to the M Performance power kit. Apparently late production N55 share the rod bearings from the S55.

    Wouldn't it be easier to stick together two v4 rather than two l4? I honestly would like to see a 1.2l V8 from 2x 600cc bike engines, maybe stroked for torque though...

    Credit where its due. Without the 6bt the 7.3psd wouldnt have been born. Athough, there is grounds to argue the dt360 should have been the engine ford used instead of the IDI or psd.

    Cummins should have made a inline 3 or 4 to put in the Nissan. I was excited utill I learned it was a v8 cummins. Like what where they thinking. Keep it simple & reliable Cummins! V8 WTF

    See now, as an industrial diesel mechanic, I really feel that most people miss the point of the 6BT entirely. The reason this engine is such a strong platform is because of the original purpose of its design. It was designed and built to be an agricultural and industrial use engine which is meant to endure thousands upon thousands of hours of duty across a HUGE array of applications which have requirements that vary widely. If it had been designed with automotive use in mind specifically, the characteristics of this engine would undoubtedly be very different and would be geared towards performance and efficiency rather than dependability and efficiency. It truly suits a tractor far better than a pickup truck, but those that don’t understand this are likely hauling their groceries anyway. As for the rest of us, we don’t really care if it’s fast or not. We want to hook up to heavy stuff and move it from point A to point B again and again and again which the 6BT does VERY well. As it should. Also, there are several other engines that match or even best the 6BT, but you won’t find the majority of them in a pickup. Not normally anyway. 😂

    I have 2 XJs. My daily with 160kmi and a clean 99 with only 103kmi I just picked up for $800. Cannot love these things enough.

    87 AMC Cherokee Laredo xj 8” lift been thru it all still solid, strong fully loaded btw been a daily ride as well over 30 years now looks great runs even better never garaged lives off road 25 miles to nearest town lol it’s my favorite even over my 08 wrangler xj no rust

    Toyota Hilux is not Toyota Tacoma. Hilux is much smaller. Outside of the USA, pickup trucks are use for people to work, not to carry overweight fat asses.

    Sensors and emissions killed the diesel...always tearing up and having problems whereas the 2 strokes ran for a very long time with regular oil changes.

    HP does move the world dum asses torque moves the world V8 diesel suck assss chev V8 international V8 Ford V8 mack V8 Cummins V8 Detroit V8 cat v8 Gm v6 V8 all suck and all leak oil and. Had my problems only merc and Dutz are ONLY good diesel 😅

    Love ut I had a 1995 Cameron super clean grandma car few years back it had stock 3.8 165hp motor with 241,000 miles on it that's right over 240k.. it was a burnout machine and with a Flowmaster muffler and dual z28 style over exhaust tips it iddled sounds like a cammed 359tbi lol it was awesome didn't burn a drop of oil or leak anywhere...

    I change my oil every 3,500 sometimes 4k dude I’d never go 10k on an oil change even if it’s synthetic Amsoil or any great brand oil.

    I drove a AMC Hornet ('77) with a 258 ci (4.2 L) to Michigan from West Virginia, with the the oil light on, as my brother in law told me it just needed a new sensor. I drove speed limit or above with 1 stop for fuel. When I got home, It had a ticking noise. I removed the rocker cover, and there was so much sludge in the valve train (from lack of oil changes) that I couldn't see the bolts that held the aluminum rocker pivots on and all the pushrods were completely plugged with baked in sludge, and the oil drainback holes in the head were plugged.. It still ran good, didn't overheat or lose power even after 400 miles of hard driving, with little oil getting to the rockers. I had no issues with the engine design, just with my brother in law. I have a well maintained AMC 232 (30k miles), on my engine stand, waiting for installation in a Rambler project, when my current project is finished. 😊
